Pregnancy, Parenting
or Moving On

Informed Fertility’s support does not end once a pregnancy is confirmed. Many people find counselling extremely beneficial through pregnancy, post-partum and parenting, especially after the trauma of infertility or loss, and/or after conceiving with the help of a donor or surrogate.

These new and long-awaited life stages can be an anxiety-provoking and overwhelming time for many, especially for those who have struggled to build their family. Research indicates that rates of post-partum depression are higher in those who have struggled with their fertility, regardless of gender or of who carried the pregnancy (this is true even with surrogacy and adoption). Conflicting emotions, intrusive thoughts, and lingering identity and relationship challenges among many other issues, can be present at a time when you are expecting and wanting to finally feel joyful. Ongoing therapeutic support can help ease these transitions, overcome unresolved feelings, and find peace after a complex journey to parenthood.

We are also available to help those who have made the brave and painful decision to end their fertility journey and forge new life paths without children.

In all such cases, know that you are not alone, and that we are here to support you through all these profound life transitions.

This type of counselling is client-led, based on your concerns/questions and can be 60 or 90 minutes as well as individual or couple. If this is your first time meeting with us, we recommend 90-minutes for a first appointment, since there is so much to cover in getting to know your history and discussing the counselling goals/plan before you get to the “work” of the session. Subsequent appointments can be 50-minutes in duration.

This type of counselling is optional, as opposed to a clinic requirement, and confidential (within the bounds of the law).

Counselling is tailored to people’s specific needs/situation and can be beneficial at anytime throughout your journey, as a singular session or ongoing support.
