About Us

Informed Fertility is a small, close-knit group of mental health professionals committed to supporting people in their family building goals, through reproductive trauma and relationship stressors, in promoting perinatal mental health, and in supporting people wishing to become donors or surrogates, and those who are donor conceived. We are committed to our clients, to our team and to our own life-long learning; and as importantly, to balancing the care we have for our work, with the commitments we have to maintaining our personal and family lives.

Core Values

  • Compassion. We have deep compassion for our clients’ lived experiences, and we feel privileged to hold their stories (of infertility, loss, trauma, discrimination, interpersonal complexities, systemic barriers).
  • Equity. We believe in equitable access to reproductive care and family building options regardless of sexual orientation/identity, relationship status, race, religion, geography.
  • Informed Choice. Our role is to support, facilitate and educate our counselling clients. While we may be experts in our professional field, our clients are experts in their own lives, and we trust in their inherent strengths, capacities and decision-making.
  • Integrity. We uphold the highest ethical standards in maintaining client confidentiality, in conducting surrogate and donor assessments according to professional guidelines, and in our relationships with affiliated clinics, agencies, organizations and other industry professionals.
  • Professionalism. We are committed to ongoing professional development including staying abreast of industry specific advances, updating psychosocial skills, and developing/maintaining partnerships and affiliations with others in the fertility industry.

Social Worker/Psychotherapist

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled therapist to join our team of social workers and psychotherapists. This position can be part-time or full-time, with flexibility for remote work from home and the option to occasionally provide in-person care from our Toronto office. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience supporting adults through grief and loss, trauma and bereavement, anxiety, depression, and other complex mental-health concerns. Experience conducting psycho-educational assessments and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary setting is essential. Prior experience working in perinatal/postpartum mental health and/or infertility is welcome but not required.

This role includes providing individual, couple, and group counselling, with a clinical focus that includes but is not limited to: psychotherapy, grief and bereavement support, anxiety-reduction and emotional-regulation techniques, and fertility-related counselling and assessments prior to, and after completing treatment. Responsibilities also include maintaining thorough clinical records, preparing clear and timely reports, collaborating closely with team members, and remaining current with developments in mental-health practice and fertility care.

Because our practice specializes in fertility and reproduction, the successful candidate must be willing to participate in a comprehensive training period to develop expertise in areas such as infertility, pregnancy loss, fertility treatments (IUI and IVF), donor conception, and surrogacy. Extensive, structured training and supervision will be provided.

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in social work or psychology
  • Registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers (OCSWSSW) or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), or an equivalent provincial social work or psychotherapist regulatory body
  • A willingness to register with a professional regulatory body in at least one other province, in addition to Ontario
  • At least 4 yrs counselling experience
Experience counselling individuals, couples and groups, as well as conducting assessments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and affiliated professionals
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Respect and openness to working with people from diverse cultures, religions, ethnicities, identities, and orientations
  • Committed to ongoing professional growth and learning.
Priority will be given to candidates:

  • Have experience in one or more of the following areas: family building (including adoption and fostering); perinatal or postpartum health and wellness; chronic illness; trauma; grief; or bereavement
